Nothing Can Trump A Day in New York

Nothing can trump a day in New York

Yellow cabs and labradoodles roam the street

Roasted walnuts fill my heart and fuel my feet

A deli sandwich extra cheese is hard to beat

New Amsterdam, look, here I am

I came from far, but there you are

Me and my suitcase stroll through New York

Dirt to my ankles but what do I care?

Who makes it here, will make it anywhere

Nothing shines brighter than the lights in Times Square

Look where I am, Old Amsterdam

I step outside; two worlds collide

Old and new, all in one

Tracing the gravel, so much to unravel

What to do, where to flee?

Time welcomes travel

What’s old is new and new is all I see

A week passes by and I’m employed in New York

Writing music for a Kate Baldwin show

Perhaps you were there at 54 Below

Risqué to say at Birdland… I don’t know

But folks I’m here, it’s been a year

New Amsterdam, you are so dear

Old and new, all in one

Tracing the gravel, so much to unravel

Where to be, who to know?

Time welcomes travel

What’s old is new and new is where I’ll go

Who is that staring back from the puddles in the pavement?

Who is that staring… Is it me?

Is that what I was or who I’m meant to be?

Old and new, all in one

Tracing the gravel, so much to unravel

Where to be, who to know, when to flee, what to say?

What’s old is new and new is where I’ll stay
